The Rongai route offers stunning views of the mountain and its surrounding landscapes. As you ascend, you’ll pass through different vegetation zones, from lush rainforests to alpine deserts. The Mountain climbing trek begins at the Rongai gate, where you’ll register and meet your mountain guide and porters. The first day is a relatively easy trekking through the rain forest, with a gradual ascent to Simba Camp at 2,600 meters. This is a great opportunity to spot wildlife such as monkeys and birds.
The final day of trekking mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania is a long descent through the rainforest to Marangu Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificates. This is a great opportunity to reflect on your journey and take in the beauty of the mountain one last time

1 Day Rongai Gate (1,800m/5,900ft) to First Cave Camp (2,600m/8,400ft) Elevation gained during Mount Kilimanjaro Adventure Climbing: 760 meters, 2,000 feet

Sun Splash Adventure Safari’s driver and Staff will pick up the clients in the Arusha hotel in the morning, a short safari briefing will be conducted then the clients depart Arusha by road for Rongai Gate, begin your climb to Uhuru Peak, the roof of Africa. During the first day, hike through forests where you may view and hear wild animals. Lunch will be provided on the trail before continuing to the first campsite. Rongai ascends via the less forested northern side of the mountain. The Rongai Route is one of the least crowded routes on Kilimanjaro because of the long drive to the gate.

2 Day First Cave Camp (2,600m/8,400ft) to Kikelewa Camp (3,600m/11,810ft) Elevation Gained during Mount Kilimanjaro Adventure climbing: 1,000 meters, 3,280 feet

Second day with Sun Splash Adventure safaris, wake up for breakfast and then proceed with the mountain climbing, during day two hike through Kilimanjaro’s moorland. The Rongai route is relatively short and steep, making for shorter hiking times. During this day’s Mount Kilimanjaro Adventure, you will be able to view Mawenzi Peak ahead.

3 Day Kikelewa Camp (3,600m/11,810ft) to Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,330m/14,200ft) Elevation Gained during Mount Kilimanjaro Adventure climbing: 730 meters, 2,390 feet

Third day with Sun Splash Adventure safaris, this day is important for acclimatization. This day is set for acclimatization, allowing you to hike in the beginning of the day and rest in the afternoon and evening. The Mountain hike is relatively short and steep. The Mawenzi Tarn campsite is situated below Mawenzi Peak and offers stunning views of both Mawenzi and Kibo.

4 Day Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,330m/14,200ft) to Kibo Camp (4,750m/15,580ft) Elevation Gained during Mount Kilimanjaro Adventure climbing: 420 meters/1380 feet

Fourth day with Sun Splash Adventure safaris, Cross the lunar landscape of the saddle on this day to arrive at the final campsite on the Mount Kilimanjaro trekking. Kibo Camp is situated directly below the Kibo cone, giving you views of your final destination.

5 Day Kibo Camp (4,750m/15,580ft) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m/19,340ft) to Horombo Hut (3,720m/12,200ft)

Fifth day with Sun Splash Adventure safaris, early morning around 2am, begin the final ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Mount Kilimanjaro. For the next six hours, hike by the light of your flashlight. The ascent to the crater rim is the most challenging part of the entire trek. The trail is very steep until you reach the crater rim at Gilman’s Point. Upon reaching Uhuru, take photos of your guide and group at the peak before beginning the Mount Kilimanjaro descent to Horombo Hut.

6 Day Horombo Hut (3,720m/12,200ft) to Marangu Gate (1,800m/5,905ft) Elevation Lost during Mount Kilimanjaro trekking: 1,920 meters, 6,295 feet

Sun Splash Adventure safaris, after morning breakfast, proceed with a descent to Marangu Gate, passing through Kilimanjaro’s cloud forest. Watch your step during the descent, as the trail can be slippery. Our Safari vehicle will be waiting at the lower station of Marangu Gate to take you back to Arusha and your Mount Kilimanjaro Adventure climbing ends with great memories from Sun Splash Adventure Safaris.
